While a considerable portion of the workforce has primary education, a third of jobs require middle to high-level skills. The sector mainly employs service and sales workers, with key sub-sectors including beverage serving activities, restaurants, and short-term accommodation. The majority of people employed in this sector are employees, highlighting the vulnerability of jobs within it. The vast majority of enterprises in the sector are owned by Rwandans. Micro enterprises dominate, while the informal sector accounts for more than 90 percent of the total enterprises in this sector.
